About Us
Here at Bangladesh Optometry Council, we see the value in everyone. We want to be a catalyst for positive change. As an affiliated organisation of the World Council of Optometry (WCO), we will work to uphold the WCO and WHO charters on the development of eye care and eye care professionals for the prevention of avoidable blindness in Bangladesh. We are the regulator for optometry education and professions in Bangladesh.

We uphold our members to the highest standards of professional practice. We will support our members through guidance, professional support and enhancement of clinical knowledge and skills.

We will protect the public from unethical practices by providing our members with clear clinical and ethical guidance and maintaining their standards of practice and by regulating our members through accreditation and investigating unethical practices and sanctioning our members.



The Committee
The Executive Committee
The executive committee will oversee the overall functions of the BOC and take a strategic decision on the recommendations of the subcommittees. The executive committee includes representatives from the ophthalmology sector and the ministry of health. Each subcommittee is designed to provide maximum output in a strategic platform. Further, the executive committee will form a working group/committee as and when necessary to further enhance the work of the BOC. The non-executive committees may appoint/employ external members as and when required, but such appointment shall require the approval of the executive body.
The President
Will provide overall vision and direction on the council in line with the recommendations of the government of Bangladesh, WHO, OSB and other relevant organisations.

Vice-President
The vice-president shall fulfil the leadership role of the BOC, setting directions, and leading and inspiring the work of the BOC.
​
General Secretary
Will provide the leadership with the day-to-day running of the organisation, connecting and liaising with the executive members. Planning and organising the activity of the executive committee.

Treasurer
Will oversee all financial activities of the BOC, from ensuring that the required fundings are available and ensuring that all expenses are accounted for and paid for.
The Sub-Committees
Regional Committee
The regional committees will ensure all information and directions of work are carried out at the regional level. The regional committee will work with regional members in raising awareness of optometry and eye health and liaise with regional power brokers. The regional committees will hear all matters arising from the concerns of the regional members and raise any issues with the executive committee of the BOC.
Legal, Regulations and Standards Committee
This committee will work under the guidance of the WCO LRS committee. They will take lead on the legal and regulatory requirements of the general membership and the BOC as an organisation. This committee will form a cross-link with the Education and Professional Standards Committee so that their work is coherent and meets all legal, regulatory and standards requirements. The chair may appoint an external legal representative to aid his/her work, but this shall require the approval of the executive committee. The Registration and Membership Committee will maintain the membership and ensure adherence to the professional framework.

Public and Press Committee
Will ensure that BOC is in good public standing. Promote eye care and optometry profession with all relevant stakeholders. This includes lobbying, advocacy and media promotion. Their plan of work will be filtered down to the regional committee so that country-wide coverage is achieved.
Education and Professional Standards Committee
Will endure all education, pre and post-qualification meet a certain standard, as defined by the WCO education standards committee. They will support and guide institutions and CPD providers in ensuring a quality syllabus are available and maintained, for education and training for students and practitioners. This committee will reevaluate the process of accreditation and certification of members. Therefore, will be a close linkage with the work of LRS committee.
