Professional Examination

Professionalism is knowing how to do it, when to do it, and doing it to the best of your abilities while holding on to your integrity with one hand and maintaining the dignity of those you care for with the other.
Professional Qualification Exams (PQEs)
Your Professional Qualification Exam (PQEs) will be conducted by an external and independent provider. This is to ensure fairness for all and so that a rigorous assessment is carried out using the most up-to-date and proven methods. The examination may include randomised MCQs, case presentations, viva and practical examinations. One or more methods may be used for each module. Examinations will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the WCO L1-L4 competency requirements.

L3 and L4 Optometrists
Will be examined in all required areas of competencies for optometrists as defined by the WCO.
Additionally, L4 Optometrists will be examined in their field of expertise using specialist centres and providers.

L2 Optometrists
Will be required to pass all competencies required for L1 Technician plus all L2 competencies.
L2 Optician
Will be required to pass all competencies required for L1 Technician plus select L2 competencies. If you cannot pass all the L2 competencies you will be listed as L2 Optician and your additional skills will be listed on your certificate.

L1 Technicians
Will sit the general L1 technical qualifications exam.
