OPTOMETRY COUNCIL
Vision for All
Bangladesh Optometry Council's our core aim is to educate and regulate the optometry education and profession in Bangladesh. We aim to achieve this through the mission of maintaining membership, facilitating the development of optometry and supporting education institutes and optometric workers in by maintaining high standards of practice, promoting eye health and vision care as a human right through advocacy, education, policy development and humanitarian outreach.
BANGLADESH OPTOMETRY COUNCIL AT A GLANCE
Bangladesh Optometry Council (BOC) knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives.
BOC recognises that there is a significant vision problem in Bangladesh, with rising number of refractive errors, partial sigtedness and blindness. Optometry sector workers can perform a crucial role in the preventing vision loss in Bangladesh as they are doing around the world.
World Health Organisation (WHO), World Council of Optometry (WCO) and IAPB strongly recommends the inclusion of optometry workers in the sight care strategies formed by organisations and governments around the world.
BOC as a non-government professional organisation realised that to provide the best sight care in Bangladesh primary eye care workers (optometry) must have the highest standards of education and skills and must be regulated, and that is why we ultimately decided to launch Bangladesh Optometry Council.
BOC is a representative body for optometrists and optometric workers in all sectors in Bangladesh. Our aim is to provide one vision for all those non-medically qualified workers working in the primary, secondary and tertiary eye care sectors.
BOC is a self-regulated membership body, that supports its members, ensuring that they are trained to and maintain a high standard of practice. BOC will ensure that its members practise within a safe environment, providing high-quality and accessible eye care for the people of Bangladesh, at the same time regulating its own members to ensure they practice their trade in a safe environment without bringing any harm to the public.
